Who says you can’t eat green leaves for breakfast with your oats?!!

I’ve been loving it in the morning on alternate days I don’t have a green smoothie for breakfast.

Some call it ‘Greenola’ by adding Spirulina in with the Oaty breakfast essential seeds and/or grains, but why not add in some fresh green leaves too!

Oats have recently been given new life in terms of marketing for healthy eating. They’re even being deemed a ‘Superfood’.

They’re rich in nutrients and so affordable, not to mention slow burning fuel for your body to keep you fuller for longer – good on those busy days.

Oats are high in fiber and protein, and a rich source of magnesium, potassium. zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, thiamine, and pantothenic acid. They also contain phytonutrients, but what’s so good is the synergy between all the nutrients at fighting disease and promoting all-round good health.

The organic whole oat grain (grout) usually is rolled in a steaming process before reaching us in a Health Food store or Supermarket, meaning it has been heated (steamed). For an all raw version you can buy the whole grains, and soak them overnight in filtered water, drain and put in a food processor with cinnamon, apple/ banana and your creation of ingredients for a raw breakfast porridge.

I use Wholegrain Rolled Oats but try not to heat them further too much in the process of making my meal as not to destroy any more nutrients.

For combining everything together I most often brew a herbal tea first thing in the morning and use that as my liquid along with coconut oil.

Mean Green Breakfast Bowl:

  • 1/2 – 2/3 Cup Wholegrain Oats
  • 1-2 TBSP Chia Seeds
  • 2 TSP Cinnamon
  • 1 big handful Green Leaves (Baby Spinach, or Kale [Shredded] etc)
  • Juice of Half 1 Lemon
  • 1 TBSP Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 – 2/3 Cup Brewed Herbal Tea
  • 1 Banana, sliced, and/or diced Apple
  • 2 TSP – 1 TBSP Spirulina or Chlorella (as much as you can handle)
  • Optional: Other Seeds or Sprouted nuts or Buckwheat; Natural Sweetener of your choice, only if needed; Goji Berries; or Coconut Yoghurt.

Mix all in a bowl together, keep a few slices of banana for garnish on top.

Eat and enjoy!!!

Visually ALL your food should be appealing to the eye. I recommend making some effort to creating food that LOOKS beautiful too. Show some self love by making an effort in presentation. even if it’s small because your pressed for time one day, like mine below:
